ABOUT ME

Veterinarian/zootechnician with quantitative and molecular genetics, biostatistics and phenogenomics background. His main research line is entitled "Breeding and Conservation of Endangered and/or Autochthonous Animal Populations” and focuses on the study of genetic diversity in animal populations to ensure their sustainability via characterization (genetic, zoometric, reproductive, functional, environmental, productive and sociocultural) and the development protective structures (studbook, breeder associations, conservation programmes). Afterwards, this line studies strategies to improve breeding programmes efficiency and ensure animal populations societal circular profitable relationship.


Veterinary Sciences Degree (University of Córdoba, from now on UCO, 2005-2010). Graduate teaching assistant, Genetics Department (UCO, 2006-2008). Joined UCO PAIDI AGR218 research group as a post-graduate teaching/research Assistant (UCO, 2010-2022). MSc degree in Zootechnics and Sustainable Management (UCO, 2011-2012). 4 competitive grants by Junta de Andalucía, Spanish Ministry of Education and/or Santander bank (2011-2014). PhD Thesis in Natural Resources and Sustainable Management (UCO, 2019). Phd was awarded Cum Laude and an international mention (3 months stay, Instituto Nacional de Investigação Agrária e Veterinária (from now on INIAVP), Portugal, 2014), 2019 Early Scientist Career Award by Journal of Veterinary Behavior (WOS Q1) and 2018/2019 Extraordinary Phd Award (UCO, 2020). Phd results comprised 11 peer reviewed publications (Web of Science from now on WOS, Q1/Q2) in collaboration with Autonomous University of Barcelona (from now on UAB) (Spain) and University of California Davis (from now on UCDavis) (USA), 4 invited talks, 1 workshop, 8 posters, 2 oral communications, 4 informative papers and 2 collaborative international books. One stay in the Polytechnic Superior School of Chimborazo (from now on ESPOCH) (Ecuador, predoctoral, 6 months) and 2 stays in National University of the Northeast (from now on UNNE) (Argentina, predoctoral, 3 months each). Teacher training for 177 h (2008-2020). Assistant professor in veterinary sciences degree (UCO) and biology degrees (UCO) for 220 h (2010-2022). Credited as a private University Professor, Assistant Professor, and Lecturer by ANECA in 2020.


Granted a postdoc PAIDI2020 highly competitive contract (success 18%) in the Andalusian Institute of Agricultural and Fisheries Research and Training (IFAPA), Alameda del Obispo (from now on IFAPA) (2020-2024). Already completed first year of stay/contract. 


Postdoctoral career (2019-2022) developed in 4 R&D centers (UCO, EPOSCH, INIAVP and IFAPA). 6 month stay in ESPOCH (Ecuador), 8 month stay in INIAVP (Portugal). 


External Phd examiner in UAB (2021). Directed 2 international mention Phds (2020-2021) with 17 peer reviewed publications (WOS D1/Q1/Q2) and 14 international conference contributions, 7 final degree projects (UCO) and 1 master degree project (UCO/University of Castilla-La-Mancha) with 4 peer reviewed papers (WOS D1/Q1) and 7 international conference contributions. Currently supervising 6 Phds (with UNIBA (Italy), UCDavis (USA) and UENF (Brazil) with 9 peer reviewed publications (WOS D1/Q1/Q2) and 17 international conference contributions (2019-2022). 


Informative Teaching experience for 79 h in Spain, Ecuador and USA. I am member of CONBIAND and RBI (Secretariat) Scientific societies (2010 and 2018, respectively, FAO members). Developed “The Worldwide Donkey Breeds Project” (WDBP) network from which I act as a coordinator (REDIRIS, 47 countries 2011-2022). 


Lead researcher in an autonomic competitive FEDER R&D project (47,111.11 €, 2022) with the aim of revalorizing the Andalusian Donkey Breed in the context of circular economy reintegration and sustainability of an autochthonous endangered. I also formed part of the research team member in 4 competitive FEDER, Ministry of Science and INIA funded projects (159,500€, 2010-2022) and 16 R&D non-competitive contracts with officially recognized breeder associations (325,430.6 €, 2017-2022).


In summary, I am first, last or corresponding author in 8 first decile (WOS D1), 35 first quartile (WOS Q1), 13 second quartile (WOS Q2) and 5 third quartile (WOS Q3) publications (38 were open access). Reached a 10 h-index and was cited 362 times (2016-2021).


Presented results from my research at 33 conferences (5 national/28 international). 36 oral communications, 8 keynotes/invited talks and 57 posters (2010-2022). International Symposium Organization Committee (UCO, 2020).
